"More Americans say the U.S. does too much (41%) than say it does too little (27%) to solve world problems". (1, People's Press) Within the 20th century this remains to be one of the most prominent and controversial disputes for the government of the United States. Some of the biggest issues we face on a global scale consist of: overpopulation, terrorism, lack of resources, poverty, political instability, and corruption. This debate among the amount of involvement taking place on a global perspective concerns the citizens of the United States in a great deal. So does the United States truly get too involved in global issues? In the mass majority Democratic's typically believe the United State's government needs to have more involvement in these global issues. Their central opinion is "with the United States having the role as the world's largest super power we are obligated to help regulate and maintain order around the globe". (3, McBride) The United States has been deemed as the most influential country in the world which is believed to correlate with the label of problem solver. Just last year the United States spent a net total of $350 billion on foreign aid with these matters and many are calling for a higher demand of our profits. With that $350 billion alone the United States designates $50.9 billion (8%) of our profit to send military away instead of protecting our country. The Democrats believe we should spent more funds, however the United States already spends more money on protecting ally borders and supporting foreigners with jobs then they do providing that its own citizens. The government approximately spends $10.5 billion to support Americans jobs, nearly 5 times less then what is spent to support foreigners with jobs. On the other hand the United States government spends $150 billion annually to protect ally borders and build outside military bases, but only spends $100.9 billion on protecting our own borders. We are much more worried about others and never focus on ourselves resulting in decline in our economy, overpopulation and threats that effect the American citizens and our superiority. Due to the lack of profit spent on protection within our own borders 16 years ago there was a series of four coordinated terrorist attacks by the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda on the United States, also known as 9/11. On this day a total of 2,977 US citizens were brutally killed, not including the heartbroken families and friends that lost their loved ones. This left the entire nation in shock. Its absolutely devastating and mind boggling that the government still endures to outsource our income on other countries rather then preventing events terrorist attacks and threats, like 9/11, from occurring within its own boarders. In order to fix these issues we need to become more selfish with some of our profits. Helping our foreign allies is very essential, but it is not nearly as important as protecting our own citizens and homeland. Our country needs to become our own priority. If we, the superpower of the world, don't protect ourselves, then who will?
